New York, NY (March 25, 2014)—During the March 20, 2014 episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, host Jimmy Fallon and his guest, Grammy-winning artist Billy Joel, teamed up to record an a capella performance of the Tokens’ classic. “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” using an Apple iPad, an app called Loopy HD, and Apogee’s Quartet audio interface. In the five days since the segment aired, the clip has spread across the internet and has been viewed 5.5 millions on YouTube.
The clip sent Loopy HD, an $8 app that can record and stack looped audio, to the top of the iTunes paid iPad apps chart, even though Fallon mistakenly called it “The Looper” throughout the segment.
Getting the audio into the iPad and the app was an Apogee Quartet, a 4 in x 8 out audio interface that lets users connect microphones, instruments, speakers, headphones and other audio devices to iOS devices. Quartet was the first pro quality multi-channel audio interface designed specifically for iPad.
The clip even grabbed the attention of Apple chief executive Tim Cook…
