Kilohearts Debuts Slice EQ Plug-in

By Strother Bullins. Slice is the second in Kilohearts’ new duo of EQ plug-ins, following the recently-released Carve EQ.

Linköping, Sweden (December 14, 2017)—Synthesizer and effects developer Kilohearts is now offering its Slice EQ for $79, or for $99 as part of the Kilohearts Equalizers Bundle with Carve EQ. Slice is the second in Kilohearts’ new duo of EQ plug-ins, following the recently-released Carve EQ. Kilohearts plug-ins are VST, AU, AAX and Rack Extension format-ready, for Mac or PC platforms.

Slice is described as a “versatile parametric equalizer for surgical mixing, mastering and sound design,” compatible with Kilohearts’ Snap Heap and Multipass effects rack plug-ins, too.

In use, up to 32 filters are clicked into the response curve in Slice EQ’s main display, each one automatically set to the appropriate filter type (high cut, low cut, peak, notch, high shelf or low shelf) for the point on the curve at which it is engaged: e.g., low cut below 30Hz, for example; it can also be configured manually.

Filter frequencies, resonances and roll-off slopes are edited by dragging nodes or adjusting via GUI knobs in the plug-in’s pop-out Filters panel. Roll-off slopes range from 6dB/octave to a sharp 96db/octave.

Slice EQ features both regular stereo and mid-side modes, with linked or independent processing of left/right or mid/sides channels.

Other features of Slice include a graphical editor describing the mouse pointer position by both musical notation and Hz and/or kHz corresponding point; one-click comparison A/B buttons for auditioning different curves; variable-resolution spectral analyzer overlay; live side chain input; and more.
