Speaking of reunions…Mike & The Ravens have apparently been playing and recording together since the early 1960s, but this album comes as a revelation. These guys make dirty ’60s/Nuggets-style punk—nasty and distorted. It just sounds great. According to the liner notes, this is the first time these guys have recorded together in more than 30 years, so to recapture their vibe, they cut these songs at the Saxony in Rouses Point, New York, where the band had played 40 years before. The first track on the album—a new version of an older song called “Roller Roller Rollerland!” is worth the price of the CD on its own. It’s followed by a string of gems by rhythm guitarist/bassist/singer Stephen Blodgett. This is superb ’60s garage rock ’n’ roll for all ages.

Must play: “Roller Roller Rollerland!”

Producer: Will Shade. Recording engineer: Marc Chapman. Mixing: Will Shade, Michael Brassard and Marc Chapman. Recorded and mixed at the Saxony (Rouses Point, NY). Mastering: Jurgen Hendlmeier (Kick out the Jams/Helsinki, Finland).
