To prepare technicians for the electronic systems technician, EST, certification exam, held on March 21, 2004, at the NSCA Systems Integration Expo in Las Vegas, NSCA has scheduled an online prep course from January 5, 2004, to February 23, 2004.

Led by NSCA master instructor Larry Garter, this fast-track program will provide an overview of what technicians may encounter on the C-EST exam, including topics such as pathways and spaces, introduction to codes and standards, electrical test equipment, voice and data systems, switching devices and timers, fiber optics and more. Four of these topics will be covered each week using Blackboard, an interactive, Internet-based medium used by universities and community colleges. Information for review, including instructor video clips and assignments, will be posted on a weekly basis that can be conveniently accessed by the student.

The first C-EST exam will be held on the final day of the NSCA Systems Integration Expo (March 21) in the Las Vegas Convention Center. Anyone may sit for the C-EST exam, although those with less than two years of experience must wait until two years of experience has been achieved before receiving the certification designation. The C-EST is a prerequisite to NSCA’s more advanced certification, the registered electronic systems integrator, R-ESI.
