One of London’s most famed buildings, the Royal Institution ofGreat Britain, has installed QSC amplifiers and loudspeakers into its18th-century Faraday Theater.
For more than 200 years, the Royal Institution has been at thecenter of scientific research and discoveries in England, including thediscovery of sodium and potassium by Humphry Davy, and MichaelFaraday’s early experiments in electro-magnetic induction. TheFaraday Theater still hosts the Friday Evening Lectures, whichbegan in 1826 by Faraday.
The steeply raked theater’s architecture seats 430 on twotiers, with a dedicated projection room and 6-meter screen. Sensitiveto the English Heritage listing of the building, Surrey-based HarpersAV installed three pair of QSC’s AcousticDesign AD-S82loudspeakers in strategic locations within the theater and galleryareas.
Harpers AV project manager Steve Baker also specified a pair of QSCISA 280 amplifiers and a 24-channel Phonic mixer, with the networkedsystem under Crestron control. “QSC products have always beenbulletproof for us,” Baker said. “We’ve used theiramps for many years. The speakers are fantastic for reproducing speechand playback, and the IntelliDock™ mounting system madeinstallation very easy, since the speakers are all mounted very high inthe air.”
“We had previously installed the AcousticDesign speakers atthe Sheerwater Community Center,” remarked Ken Foster, HarpersAV’s managing director, “and everyone fell in love withthem. So we felt confident they’d be right for theFaraday.”
