P&E Wing Updates Recording Best Practices

The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing has published a new paper, "Recommendations for Hi-Resolution Music Production," and an updated version of its longstanding "Recommendations for Delivery of Recorded Music Projects."

Santa Monica, CA (October 17, 2017)—The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing has published a new paper, “Recommendations for Hi-Resolution Music Production,” and an updated version of its longstanding “Recommendations for Delivery of Recorded Music Projects.”

The brand-new paper, “Recommendations for Hi-Resolution Music Production,” was created to address the fact that the industry currently lacks hi-res production standards, causing confusion and inefficiencies in the digital music supply chain. To address this, a dedicated committee within the P&E Wing, chaired by Leslie Ann Jones, director of Music Recording and Scoring at Skywalker Sound, developed the new document to help increase efficiency and transparency in the production process.

Meanwhile, the new revision of “Recommendations for Delivery of Recorded Music Projects” specifies the physical deliverables that are the culmination of the creative process, with the understanding that it is in the interest of all parties involved to ensure that recorded masters are safely stored and remain accessible for both the short and long term. The updated version provides information about available technologies and includes a new section on recommended file hierarchy and management for recorded music, aimed at studio pros.
