RME presented the ADI-2, a compact (9.5-inch unit) and flexible2-channel high-end AD/DA converter that converts from/to S/PDIF, AESand ADAT at up to 192 kHz.

Key features include balanced inputs and outputs, monitoring viaheadphone out, SteadyClock (a proprietary clock technology for maximumjitter suppression) for optimal converter quality, three-stage hardwareinput and output level control, and can be run on a wide range of powersupplies.

The ADI-2 is equipped with a balanced stereo line input via twoNeutrik XLR/phones combo jacks, a balanced stereo line output with XLR,separate and simultaneously active phone jacks, and an adjustableheadphone output.

The analog inputs and outputs use the same circuit design as RME’sADI-8. Three different settings for the input and output levels eachprovide compatibility in the analog domain. In the digital world itstransformer-balanced coaxial (RCA) S/PDIF I/O has switchable channelstatus to make it fully AES/EBU-compatible. The optical Toslink I/Oscan handle up to 192 kHz and also serve as ADAT I/Os with up to 96kHzsample rate. Users can employ S/PDIF input and ADAT output or viceversa in AD/DA mode.

Other features include front panel functional buttons, informativestatus displays, a six LED level meter, protective rack handles and astrain-relief for power cord and audio cables.
