New York, NY (October 30, 2012)—With more than 8.2 million people along the East Coast of the United States without power, and at least 1 million of that number in the New York City area alone, the owners of New York recording studios are patiently waiting to assess the damage their businesses faced during Monday’s storm.
Christian Rutledge of Terminus Studios, a new studio on 7th Avenue in Times Square, said he has not been able to visit the studio since before the storm hit. However, he said the company took precautionary measures and powered down all its gear and the console in the studio to protect it from power surges.
Because the safety of the studios’ employees and clients is the most important aspect, Rutledge said business will be on hold until it is safe to get to the studio. “We are not taking bookings until my staff and I can safely get to the studio, meaning once the subways are running,” Rutledge said.
Power in much of Manhattan went down Monday night, but Rutledge said he doesn’t think Terminus Studios was part of that area. “Midtown Manhattan was said to be powered-up, so I’m pretty sure we did not lose power,” he said.
Over at Diamond District Studios on Broadway between 52nd and 53rd Streets in Manhattan, co-owner Gabe Scales said no one on his staff has stopped in at the facility since the hurricane hit. Scales is flying from Los Angeles tomorrow to see the studio, while co-owner Gregory Green (Rsonist) is waiting for the New York subways to open up before he heads to the studio.
