Nashville, TN (July 18, 2019)—Americana band Strung Like a Horse is working with multiple Grammy-winning producer/engineer Matt Ross-Spang, whose credits include Jason Isbell, Margo Price, John Prine, Brandi Carlile, Al Green and Josh Ritter, to record its first studio album, which will be released on Transoceanic Records.
Recording sessions for the album, to be titled Whoa!, have already begun at the Sound Emporium in Nashville. “I’m very excited to be working with Strung Like a Horse on their new record in Nashville. I was intrigued immediately by the band’s energy and sheer love of music. You can hear their home and heroes in these songs, but just enough to help them carve out their own sound. The way they approach Americana is truly unique,” says Ross-Spang.
The band, known for a signature brand of Americana distilled from old-school storytelling, roots-rock and bluegrass instrumentations, with an alt-rock edge, is based in Chattanooga, TN, and was noted among Amos Perrine’s “Best New Music” picks from last year’s AmericanaFest recap (2018). This will be the band’s first studio-recorded record.
The album features original songs penned by Strung frontman, Clayton Maselle and a duet with singer/songwriter Nicki Bluhm. Strung Like a Horse is reportedly just as excited about the partnership with Ross-Spang, saying, “Matt is the horse’s high heels! This marriage is made of magic. We can feel it in our bones. These new Strung songs are on a whole other level from our basement recordings of the past. Everything is sounding amazing.”
