Houston, TX (October 13, 2008)–SugarHill Recording Studios celebrated its 67th birthday by receiving the gift of electricity, 23 days after losing power due to Hurricane Ike. With the exception of a three-month closure due to bankruptcy in the 1970s under the International Artists tenure, the 23-day interruption is the longest in the studios’ history.
The first week of October also marked the 12th anniversary of RAD AUDIO, Inc., the current ownership of partners Rodney Meyers, Andy Bradley and Dan Workman.
Among having to postpone and reschedule various sessions, and moving a few sessions to local studio SoundArts, SugarHill was forced to cancel its monthly Music Makers Mixer as well as a SugarHill Session with organ-playing hellion Mr. Quintron.
Said Workman, “This has been the longest SugarHill has been ‘dark’ I remember since Hurricane Allison way back in 1983. Getting the power back is such a relief! I want to personally thank our clients whose sessions were interrupted for their patience, and thanks as well to those that helped us clean up. Among those are Jeff Wells of SoundArts, Ross Wells and everyone at Zenfilm, Clarence King of 2nd King Landscaping, John Young and the crew of Cable and Electrical Services, Jim Truitt, Jeff Poole and Jim Jackson with Farmer’s Insurance Agency, and lastly the hardworking Centerpoint Energy crew who hooked us up this morning.”
Sessions for the weeks of October 6 and beyond were confirmed as scheduled and those sessions displaced by Ike are currently being rescheduled.
