Swineshead Adds Orpheus

Cambridge, UK (October 8, 2010)--David v.R Bowles has invested in a Prism Sound Orpheus computer FireWire interface for installation at Swineshead Productions in California.

Cambridge, UK (October 8, 2010)–David v.R Bowles has invested in a Prism Sound Orpheus computer FireWire interface for installation at Swineshead Productions in California.

A member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) Board of Governors and co-chair of the Workshops Committee for the forthcoming AES Convention in San Francisco, Bowles describes Prism Sound’s Orpheus as “the best external interface available.” The Orpheus has now been installed in Swineshead Productions, the Bay Area-based classical recording production company that Bowles founded in 1995. Swineshead Productions specializes in high-resolution surround sound recording and offers a range of services from its two-studio facility, including audio production, engineering, editing, mastering and location recording.

For his main editing workstation, and for all of his location recording projects, Bowles uses SADiE equipment. “I purchased my first SADiE system in 1995, on a recommendation from the renowned classical recording engineer Tony Faulkner,” Bowles says. As SADiE improved its technology, Bowles kept up to speed with the changes by upgrading, first to an Octavia multitrack system, then to a 16-channel 24.96 and an H64, plus an LRX2 for location recording.

Within the past year, Bowles has needed a second remote rig for projects requiring no more than eight channels, and it was this need that prompted him to invest in a Prism Sound Orpheus. “The Orpheus is the best external interface available, therefore I’m able to guarantee clients the same level of quality whether using the H64, LRX2 or Orpheus,” he says.

Since acquiring his Orpheus, Bowles has used the interface on a number of projects, including recording trumpeter Charles Schlueter, the Berkshire Symphony, the New Century Chamber Orchestra, the seven-voice male ensemble Clerestory, cellist Tanya Tomkins and the Benvenue Fortepiano Trio.
