Wakefield, UK (November 18, 2010)–Terry Tew has become the first rental company to purchase a SoundField DSF-2 and DSF-3 digital mic system for 5.1 audio capture.
Within weeks of the digital SoundField mic arriving at UK audio-visual rental company Terry Tew, located northeast of London, managing director Tew purchased a second complete DSF-2/DSF-3 rig and a UPM-1 stereo-to-5.1 upmix processor as well.
“Anyone that does HD OB work for Sky is now required to use a DSF-2/DSF-3 system, and although Sky has rigged many of them permanently at some Premier League stadiums, not everywhere has one,” explains Tew. “We received a few calls asking if we rented them, and I realized it would be worth our while to have a system. SISLive used our system this year at Wimbledon, and then our customers started using it so regularly that we realized we needed a second one to cope with demand. Our DSF-2s have now been used at Wimbledon, on coverage of the Red Bull Air Race, and on HD Rugby matches. We got the UPM-1 recently, and it’s already been used to upmix some of the stereo feeds from an episode of Sky’s show Must Be The Music, which was filmed at Wembley Stadium.”
Tew founded his hire company, which stocks microphones for rental and also lighting and projection systems, in 1992, after many years working as a BBC sound engineer. His company now offers the largest stock of radio mics for hire anywhere in the UK (over 500 channels). His business is based around hire to broadcast and OB facilities providers–it’s his company’s mics that are used on one of the UK’s top Saturday night TV dance shows–and to the organizers of corporate events such as conferences.
