Tribune Studios, a division of Tribune Broadcasting, has installedtwin Max Air digital audio consoles in its Hollywood productionfacility. Both 96-channel, 5.1 surround-capable consoles will be usedfor live-to-tape production sound on shows such as The SharonOsbourne Show, Family Feud and Style Court.

Director of engineering and technology, Jim Toten (pictured), said,”Max Air packs a lot of bang for the buck, and from an operator’s pointof view, it’s easy to learn and use. The touchscreen and the fullSuperchannel in the center of the console make it easy to work with, which is very important, as our mixers are freelancers. We have alsobeen using the Euphonix System 5 for some time so we know the companyvery well and like the reliability and the architecture of theirsystems.

“Although the shows we do now are in stereo, we wanted to be fully5.1 capable,” Toten continued. “We typically use between 40 to 60sources so Max’s 96 channels easily cover current needs and give ussome spare capacity, which will be needed in the future when we do moresurround work.”
