Zimmer Rushes to DTS

Hans Zimmer’s original music for Ron Howard’s new film, Rush, about the battle for the 1976 F1 championship, is available in a DTS Headphone:X audio mix that allows listeners to hear the score precisely as the composer intended it to sound.

Calabasas, CA (September 30, 2013)—Hans Zimmer’s original music for Ron Howard’s new film, Rush, about the battle for the 1976 F1 championship, is available in a DTS Headphone:X audio mix that allows listeners to hear the score precisely as the composer intended it to sound.

The Rush: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is released by WaterTower Music. Fans will have the opportunity to download all tracks in DTS Headphone:X via Zimmer’s Z+ Rush app.

DTS Headphone:X is said to allow content producers to capture the acoustics of an audio production studio for reproduction on consumer-end products. The technology externalizes and expands sound, so instead of listeners perceiving that the sound is inside their head, as with traditional headphone listening, they experience it as coming from loudspeakers located some distance around them.

“While composing the score for Rush, my goal was to communicate the essence of our main characters by balancing the sound of their personal tribulations with the adrenaline-infused sounds of the actual races,” said Zimmer. “Hearing the Rush score in Headphone:X via the Z+ Rush app virtually transports listeners to my mixing chair, allowing them to experience the emotion and meaning of the music exactly as I wrote it.”

“Working with Hans on his second Headphone:X soundtrack release has been an incredible experience,” said Geir Skaaden, senior vice president of products and platforms, DTS, Inc. “Thanks to the success of the first Headphone:X release, Man of Steel, we were able to continue building the library of titles available in this revolutionary technology with the Rush soundtrack. With Headphone:X, listeners will be able to experience the same acoustic environment used by Hans during the making of the soundtrack, and will hear every audio nuance used to transport listeners back to the legendary 1970s Formula rivalry between [James] Hunt and [Niki] Lauda in full surround sound over headphones or earbuds.”

The Rush OST mixed in DTS Headphone:X can be accessed via the Z+ Rush app, available on the iTunes App Store and Android Market.
