AES Europe Introduces Broadcast Spotlight Series

The 122nd AES Convention in the Austria Center Vienna (ACV), May 5-8, will expand its focus on radio broadcasting topics by packaging a wide range of presentations in a new Broadcast Spotlight Series. The events will provide attendees with a comprehensive field of subjects and options.

Beginning on Saturday, May 5, the series will present the workshops “Surround for Broadcasting” and “Loudness Metering Systems.” A number of paper sessions will focus on a variety of broadcast related topics. Saturday attendees may also participate in technical tours to Vienna’s ORF Radio Center and ORF TV Center. Each tour will be given twice that day.

From May 6-8, the convention will offer the tutorials “Sync and Timecode,” “Quality Management,” “IP Audio Over WAN Network,” “Low Bitrate Distribution Systems,” “MXF Media Exchange Format,” “Broadcast Case Studies” and “Champagne Taste—Beer Money.” Workshops include “Process Model Broadcast,” “Radio Music Recording” and “Mass Storage Carrier.” The application seminar on audio restoration will round out the overall broadcasting series and is free of charge for all visitors.

Additional Spotlight topics include archiving and restoration, and on live sound. The schedule has been designed to provide visitors with sufficient time to attend a variety of papers, workshops and seminars, and to explore the pro audio technology exhibition.

The schedule planner for presentations is available on the Audio Engineering Society’s Website at www.aes.org. The preliminary calendar of events is available at
