AES Product Announcement: Quantegy Debuts Black Diamond FHD3

Quantegy Recording Solutions LLC, a manufacturer of audio, video, data, storage, logging and instrumentation recording media products, announced the debut of a new edition of its FHD Firewire Hard Disk Drive Series, the Black Diamond FHD3 (pictured) at AES New York (October 7-10).

Quantegy’s FHD high-performance external drives allow fast, easy transfer and storage of large audio, video and data files. Says Quantegy CEO Peter Hutt, “Black Diamond FHD3 is the next generation of Quantegy External Hard Drives. The tremendous success and acceptance of the first generation Quantegy FHD products has lead to the FHD3 Series, giving discerning professionals all of what they have come to expect from Quantegy Recording Solutions.”

“Our customers wanted a drive solution with no cooling fan,” added Hutt. “A proper audio mixing environment should have no distracting mechanical noises. Our new drives feature an extruded aluminum chassis, that, when coupled with convection cooling, has eliminated the need for the internal fan.”

Compatible with all leading Mac and Windows based workstation systems, the FHD3 features three interface types: Firewire 400 x 1, Firewire 800 x 2 and USB 2.0 x 1. The drive is also supplied with all three cable types.

Available in 160GB, 250GB and 400GB configurations, the drive can be used either horizontally and stackable or vertically with the supplied cast aluminum base. Other features include a LED power indicator on the power supply and an On/Off Switch on the back panel of the drive. Front panel bi-color LED indicates power on and drive read/write activity.

The DrivePak, a ruggedized professional carry case, features the same durable outer casing as previous FHD models, but now accommodates two drives, power supplies, and cables.

“The FHD Series has been created specifically for the music, television and film professional,” Hutt concluded. “Recording today is an immensely involved, complex, and complicated undertaking, and insuring there is ample space for storage as well as insuring that the final product is safe and protected is as important as laying down the initial tracks. Quantegy knows how important all of this and is why we have updated the FHD Firewire Hard Disk Drive Series to the Black Diamond FHD3.”
