Allen & Heath Launches Entry-Level ZED Series Mixers

The ZED-14 (approximately $415) stereo mixer is the first in Allen & Heath’s new range of small-format, USB-equipped mixers for live performance and studio production. ZED-14 provides 13 inputs; 10 outputs; two pre- and two post-fader aux sends; USB connectivity; dual stereo input capability; and advanced monitoring facilities.

The ZED-14 has six mono channels with a responsive 3-band, sweepable EQ, and four stereo channels with a 2-band EQ, as well as 100mm faders. In addition to the twin TRS inputs, flexible dual-input options include stereo RTN on RCA, 2-track on RCA, and USB.

The ZED-14 features a preamp designed by R&D manager Mike Griffin. The DuoPre is a padless preamp, using a two-stage design with carefully controlled amounts of gain in each stage, offering lots of headroom.

Comprehensive foldback is provided by two pre-fader sends, and foldback mixes can be checked in headphones and monitors by using the monitor section controls which include the channel PFLs, 2-track and USB returns, plus the main L/R mix, as its sources.

Cakewalk SONAR LE software for Windows Vista and XP is bundled with ZED-Mixers.
