Paul Sandweiss of Sound Design Corp. and Chris Maddalone will engineer the 5.1 and stereo broadcast of the American Idol finalists, who perform at the Kodak Theater stage on May 24, 2005.

The Sound Design Corp. mixing suite features both a TC M5000 and a System 6000 running on three Yamaha 02R 96Ks. A Tube-Tech CL-2A also supplies tube compression on the lead vocal channels. In the main control room, the 5.1 audio chain is processed by a TC Electronic DB-8 Broadcast Audio Processor just before encoding into a Dolby Digital data stream.

“We are pleased that Idol has used TC processing for the entire season, said Thomas Lund, senior broadcast specialist for TC Electronic, “It is difficult to produce a live 5.1 broadcast with a large band week after week. TC products not only enhance the musical performances but really help control the wide dynamic range available in digital television.”
