Auralex Acoustics Introduces Screen6 System at AES 2006

Auralex Acoustics introduced the Screen6 System at AES 2006. The Screen6 System comprises six pArtScience SpaceCouplers, a product designed by Russ Berger for Auralex, and can be placed on hard walls and ceilings to tame early reflections common in mix rooms and home studios without removing energy from the room.

The Screen6 cloud or wall grouping is designed to disperse sonic energy, removing the discrete reflection while preserving the energy’s contribution to the room’s reverberant tail. As the angle of the sound source increases, approaching grazing incidence, the SpaceCoupler is said to provide increasingly more diffusion.

“In monitoring environments, if left uncontrolled, it is the first bounce off the walls and ceilings that will be most detrimental in coloring the sound,” says Tracy Chandler, director of marketing and sales for Auralex. “Recorded sound in studios, particularly in small rooms, can take on an unwanted character if nearby surfaces aren’t treated. The Screen6 System optimizes the acoustical response to the unique relationship of the monitors, listeners and room boundaries.”

The Screen6 System includes the necessary hardware to join the SpaceCouplers in multiple configurations. Lightweight assembly affords overhead suspension or wall attachment via optional mounting blocks. Foam inserts, which are sold separately, provide additional absorption.
