Avid, Microsoft to Present ‘Make Your Mark’ Seminar Series in October

Avid Technology and Microsoft are collaborating to sponsor “Make Your Mark” seminars in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The seminars are free for attendees who are interested in learning from industry professionals about what it takes to begin careers in film, music, videogames and animation. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about the tools that professionals are using.

The New York City event, which is completely full, takes place on Saturday, October 13, 2007, from 12 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Millennium Broadway Hotel, 146 West 44th St. Scott Campbell, general manager of Broad Street Digital, will moderate an interactive panel session. Panelists include music industry talent scout Tim Sweeney, founder of Sweeney and Associates; producer, mix engineer, programmer and two-time Grammy nominee Carmen Rizzo; Jarod Neece, conference and production manager of SXSW Film Conference and Festival; and Chris Johnson, animation director at TOPIX.com. Presenters and breakout sessions will include film and television editor Shelly Westerman, Carmen Rizzo, the Rondo Brothers, and writer and director Youngwoong Jang.

The Los Angeles event takes place on Saturday, October 20, 2007, from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Los Angeles Film School, 6363 W. Sunset Blvd., #500. Ben Bajarin, consumer technology and digital media analyst/strategist of Creative Strategies, will moderate a panel that includes Louis Black, founder and judge, SXSW Film Conference and Festival; John Norris, director of film animation for Artists & Directors Cooperative; Carmen Rizzo; and Tim Sweeney. The final scheduled “Make Your Mark” seminar will visit San Francisco on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at San Francisco State’s Downtown Campus, College of Extended Learning, 835 Market St. (at Powell St.). Kelli Richards, founder and CEO of the All Access Group, will moderate a panel that includes Lya Guerra, film program coordinator and programmer for the SXSW Film Conference and Festival; Tim Sweeney; Craig Parks, VP branded entertainment and business development, Independent Film Channel; and Jonathan Harb, CEO and creative director of Visual FX production company, Whisky Tree. Presenters and breakout sessions will include Carmen Rizzo, the Rondo Brothers, filmmaker and producer Dan Moses of First Track Productions, and Jonathan Harb.
