Barcelona Chosen as Site for AES’ 118th Convention

For the first time in its 57-year history, the Audio Engineering Society has selected Barcelona as host city for the AES European Pro Audio Expo & Convention.

For the first time in its 57-year history, the Audio Engineering Society has selected Barcelona as host city for the AES European Pro Audio Expo & Convention. Set for May 28 – 31 in the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB), the convention is expected to draw record crowds. AES executive director, Roger Furness, has announced an outstanding group of European audio industry professionals already hard at work on the program.

“The 118th Convention committee is co-chaired by Eloi Battle and Luis Ortiz from the Universities of Barcelona and Madrid (respectively),” Furness reports. “From our initial meeting in late 2004, I was tremendously impressed with the experience and dedication of every member of the executive committee. They share a commitment to make our first Barcelona convention an outstanding event in every way.

Joining 118th Convention Co-Chairs Eloi Battle and Luis Ortiz, on the AES Barcelona mission are: Papers Co-Chairs, Ben Bernfeld, Basilio Pueo and Alexandre Enrique; Workshops Co-Chairs, Alberto Gonzales and Javier Lopez; Tutorial Co-Chairs, Pep Agulló and Jóse Ramón Beltrán; Students Program Co-Chairs, Enric Guaus and Ulrike Schwarz; Technical Tours Chair, Xavier Serra; Facilities Chair, Suso Ramallo; Program Coordinator, Han Tendeloo; and Exhibits, Thierry Bergmans

“In addition to developing an outstanding series of workshops, tutorials, papers and special events, the Barcolena committee is exploring methods to provide visitors with a deeper insight into Spain’s professional audio industry,” Furness adds. “With interest in digital live sound especially high in Europe, that issue promises to be a primary topic for the 118th Convention.”

“We are convinced that visitors will quickly embrace Barcelona as a outstanding environment for an AES Convention,” co-chair Luis Ortiz said. “The new CCIB (Centre Convencions International Barcelona) is located near the city’s colorful seafront district. Our world-renown restaurants and warm hospitality will also contribute to making the 118th AES Convention an unforgettable event.”

“Technical tours chair Xavier Serra will introduce visitors to the city’s most interesting venues,” adds co-chair Eloi Battle. “With a variety of options that includes the Opera House and our FC Barcelona football stadium, we hope this will be the first of many AES events to visit our beautiful city.”
