Calrec Audio to Unveil Bluefin High-Density Signal Processing

Calrec Audio will unveil Bluefin, a new high-density signal processing system, at NAB 2006 (booth N917). Bluefin increases the number of mono equivalent channels from 226 to 480, more than doubling the digital signal processing power of the largest Alpha consoles, at no extra cost.

In addition to providing 480 equivalent mono signal paths on just one DSP card, Bluefin allows full EQ and dynamics to all channels, and is capable of providing 78 full 5.1 surround-sound channels. The system also allows for eight 5.1 groups with full EQ and dynamics, four main outputs, 48 multitrack outputs and 20 auxiliary outputs.

Bluefin’s design generates less heat and uses less power. System resilience is provided by 100-percent redundancy of all processing elements on a second card. It is the equivalent of having another console as a hot spare.

Bluefin technology is fully compatible with existing Alpha consoles. For existing Calrec customers, having to increase console capacity to cope with HD television will not involve buying a new desk.
