Community Lutheran Church Rocks With InnovaSON

Every Sunday at Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, three services are held. The first is a traditional Lutheran service, followed by two contemporary services: one with a rock ‘n’ roll theme, another with a country feel and all mixed on an InnovaSON Sy40.

Ford Audio Video selects the InnovaSON Sy40 for multi-function use at Community Lutheran Church, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Every Sunday at Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, three services are held. The first is a traditional Lutheran service, followed by two contemporary services: one with a rock ‘n’ roll theme, and another with a country feel.

To ease the transition between the three diverse events, the facility chose the InnovaSON Sy40 digital live mixing console.

With automation capabilities that enable storage and quick recall of preset mix configurations and built-in audio processing ability, the Sy40 allows the church to “push the outer limits of feasibility” when it comes to producing and staging creative services.

“Because it has a multiple service format, the church has a lot of need for the recallability parameters available through the Sy40,” says David Starck, an engineer with systems integrator Ford Audio-Video’s Las Vegas office, the company that installed the console as part of a broad AV and lighting package. “The way Sunday services are set up, they have about ten minutes to make the switch to the next service, which is dramatically different from the last. They’ll have just a choir and an organ in the traditional service, then two different types of services with full-blown bands will follow.” That requires an ability to quickly recall mix settings and other parameters almost at the touch of a button. Something the Sy40 makes possible.

Using a companion InnovaSON Stage Box, Ford expanded the mixing capabilities of the Sy40, enabling the church to stay within its budget guidelines by not requiring the purchase of a console that would exceed their needs. Linked to the console via coaxial cable, the Stage Box allows the console to expand from a standard configuration of 40 physical inputs and 16 outputs to 64 inputs and 48 outputs.

The console in use at the church is configured with 56 inputs: 32 via four Si-8D input cards in the Stage Box; 16 via two Si-8D cards on the console; and an additional eight line outputs on the console. One XO-8D output card that feeds the main speaker cluster and monitor sends, and three MO-8D unprocessed output cards, give the console its 32 outputs.

Utilizing InnovaSON’s latest software upgrade, Sensoft 8.1, the console comes with several new features including the Xfad (expanded fader) mode for inputs and buses.
