d&b audiotechnik has appointed Gerhard Mayr (pictured) as its new Head of Sales. Based in the company’s headquarters in Backnang, Germany, Mayr takes over this position from Peter Tongue, who has retired after working for d&b audiotechnik for nearly 14 years.
d&b states that it decided to recruit its Head of Sales from beyond the entertainment industry. “Gerhard has skills stretching far outside the familiar toolkit,” says Marketing Director Simon Johnston.
In the 24 years of his career, Mayr has worked with Force Computers (Solectron), Motorola, and most recently Garmin, playing a leading role in developing these brands internationally through engagement with new markets and the reinvention of existing ones, which required that he spend a considerable amount of time in Asia. Like many employees within d&b, Mayr once aspired to be a musician and still maintains a passion for live music.
With his roots in technology, Mayr has developed his own loudspeakers and amplifiers, and at one time he ran his own company for which he developed a control unit for moving lights.
“Throughout his career he has demonstrated a willingness to challenge the orthodoxy,” Johnston adds, “and has educated markets to accept that quality has a significant value. This is very d&b.”
