Open to university and college students nationwide, the registration process for Shure’s second “Fantastic Scholastic” recording competition will officially started at noon on October 6, 2005, and will remain open until 11:59 P.M. CST on November 14, 2005. A random drawing held on November 17, 2005, will then be used to select 10 competing schools, each of which will receive a standardized “mic locker” from Shure that must be used to complete every recording project submitted.
The names of registrants chosen as contestants in the random drawing will be posted on Shure’s Website on December 5, 2005. Dedicated mic lockers will be sent out the same day, and must be returned no later than March 3, 2006. Announcement of the grand prize winner will take place on May 8, 2006.
Competing teams from each school are required to track and mix a live performance, which will then be judged by a panel of industry professionals who will evaluate the recordings based upon their overall fidelity, clarity, sonic balance and creativity in selection and placement of the microphones.
This past May, Shure announced that a five-member team from the Berklee College of Music in Boston won the first “Fantastic Scholastic” competition. “We were really pleased with the response, and extremely impressed with the level of competition,” said Shure market development specialist Dave Mendez, the contest coordinator. “This contest is a great way for us to show our support for everyone involved in the process of teaching and studying the recording arts and sciences.”
