Dolby Showcases Media Producer Software Suite at AES

Dolby Laboratories announced that by end of October it will ship all three components of its Dolby Media Producer suite for Mac OS X: Dolby Media Encoder, Dolby Media Decoder and Dolby Media Tools. The suite offers a software solution for mastering audio files for DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc media, using a client-server model to improve the workflow of post-production facilities. Its applications are available individually or as a complete package.

Dolby Media Encoder offers comprehensive encoding and job control capabilities in a client-server environment, while Dolby Media Decoder provides reference decoding functions, including all Dolby decoding and listening modes. In addition, Dolby Media Tools offers bitstream and metadata editing features to save re-encoding of previously encoded audio files. The Dolby Media Producer suite supports Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and MLP Lossless for the new HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats, as well as DVD-Video and DVD-Audio formats.

Dolby also introduced the KIT 989 CobraNet module upgrade option for its Lake Processor. KIT 989 adds up to 16 bi-directional channels of industry standard CobraNet digital audio transport.

Making its AES debut, the Dolby DP600 Program Optimizer offers a file-based audio loudness analysis and correction system. The DP600 is compatible with many common broadcast media file formats in use today, the DP600 expands upon the technology developed for the Dolby LM100 Broadcast Loudness Meter with Dialogue Intelligence. Terrestrial, cable and satellite broadcasters are promised the ability to automatically normalize the loudness of all of their file-based programming and commercials without affecting the original dynamic range. Programs can be normalized by either adjusting metadata values or scaling the audio signal itself to a target loudness level. The system also offers the option of file-based encoding and decoding of Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby E content, as well as transcoding between the coding formats.
