Drummer Boy Sound Handles Production for Benefit

The bi-annual In the Garden of Dreams Gala is one of South Florida’s top social events, which recently raised more than $1 million for cancer research at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The event was held on December 9, 2006 at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, Florida. Attendees were entertained by R&B vocalist Ruby Baker.

Tropics Entertainment and the university contacted Miami-based Drummer Boy Sound (DBS) for production services. “The organizers wanted to do something a little different,” says Harold Cummings of DBS. “They planned to have Ruby perform on a 24×24-foot centered stage in the middle of the hotel’s grand ballroom. The ballroom was configured to hold 1,800 people, sitting around all four sides of the stage to enjoy Ruby and her eight-piece band.”

DBS drew from its inventory of EV, Dynacord, Midas and Klark Teknik equipment. For house sound, six EV QRx112/75 speakers were flown on a circular truss above the central stage (pictured). Eight EV ZX1, two powered EV Plasma P1 and three QRx112/75 boxes served as monitors and stagefills. Four Dynacord Cobra SUB boxes handled the low end.
