Engineer Piper Payne Joins Michael Romanowski Mastering

Mastering engineer Piper Payne

Mastering engineer Piper Payne has joined Michael Romanowski Mastering in San Francisco as an associate mastering engineer. Payne will also take responsibility for the critical duplication of master-quality ¼-inch tapes for the Tape Project, an audiophile record label co-owned by Paul Stubblebine, Dan Schmalle and Romanowski. In addition to mastering, Payne offers location-recording services in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Payne holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan in Performing Arts Technology–Media/Sonic Arts, and a Graduate Studies Certificate in music production and recording’ from the University of Stavanger, Norway. She is also an active member of the Audio Engineering Society.

While studying overseas in Norway, Payne worked with MemNor Sound Archival Service and as an apprentice to Thor Legvold at Sonovo Mastering. Payne also has worked as the mix engineer and mastering assistant to Bob Katz at Digital Domain in Orlando, Fla., and as Senior Audio Associate at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada.
