Harris Corporation’s Broadcast Communications Division announced that its radio broadcast systems business unit will provide a networked audio management system to the Infinity Boston radio group. Infinity, Boston-owned stations WBCN-FM and WZLX-FM will relocate to the existing WODS-FM facility over the next several months. The three stations will share resources among nine studios using Harris’ PR&E VistaMax™ networked audio management system. Six Harris PR&E RMXdigital™ audio consoles built into the company’s Smoothline® furniture will complete the equipment package. Harris will also provide all pre-wiring, facility design and onsite installation as a part of the package.

The three stations will share resources among nine studios using Harris’ PR&E VistaMax™ (pictured) networked audio management system. Six Harris PR&E RMXdigital™ audio consoles built into the company’s Smoothline® furniture will complete the equipment package. Harris will also provide all pre-wiring, facility design and onsite installation as a part of the package.

WZLX and WBCN each will take delivery of three VistaMax-enabled RMXdigital consoles. WODS, which has operated in the renovated facility for two years, will upgrade its Harris PR&E BMXdigital audio consoles for VistaMax connectivity. All three stations will communicate and share resources using the VistaMax platform. The studio-oriented installation provides a clear path toward HD Radio, keeping Infinity Boston at the forefront of the digital transition. Harris’ simplified installation provides a plug-and-play design should Infinity Boston relocate additional stations in the future.

“Harris’ renewed focus on radio is evident in Infinity Boston’s selection of and confidence in our Radio Broadcast Systems business unit to provide a cost-effective, turnkey networked audio solution,” said Debra Huttenburg, vice president and general manager of the Harris Radio Broadcast Systems business unit. “We are privileged that such a high-profile broadcaster has chosen to partner with Harris on both a technical and strategic level. Our dedication to offering highly differentiated products, technologies and services has never been stronger. Infinity Boston is just the latest success in Harris’ goal to help radio broadcasters of all sizes consolidate operations, reduce costs, and migrate with ease toward digital and HD Radio.”

The VistaMax platform simplifies network audio management by eliminating or reducing stand-alone routers, distribution systems and long multi-pair bundles. The Infinity Boston Vistamax solution will connect one control room and two production studios apiece from each station. Three Vistamax frames in the facility’s central terminal room will comprise redundant power supplies, 288 mixed analog/digital audio I/Os, 64 logic I/Os and a multi-station intercom system.
