iZotope Inc. announced iZotope RX ($349) audio restoration software, a stand-alone application for Windows Vista, Windows XP and Mac OS X (Universal Binary) at the 123rd AES convention in New York City. Using newly developed technology created by iZotope’s research team, RX removes hiss and buzz, eliminates clicks and crackles, and repairs overload distortion in audio. New intelligent spectral repair algorithms can analyze and fill gaps in audio files to restore previously unusable recordings.
Recommended for any application that demands spotless audio, RX features a unique interface designed specifically for audio restoration work. Preset modules promise quick results for time-sensitive applications such as broadcasting, podcasting, video production and studio recording. Advanced features allow a level of control needed in critical applications such as forensics, audio remastering and archiving.
An advanced spectrogram is said to have the greatest time and frequency resolution available, allowing a finer degree of detail work. Users can isolate and fix damaged audio with selective processing and Spectral Repair. The Compare Settings feature auditions parameters quickly, and a non-destructive undo history is also available. Batch processing allows you to apply multiple processes to large files.
In addition, an extended application, iZotope RX Advanced ($1,199), allows more precise control over RX algorithms and includes iZotope’s 64-bit SRC sample rate conversion and MBIT+ dither.
While RX is initially available as a stand-alone application, its real-time processing modules will also be released as plug-ins, scheduled for early 2008. When the plug-ins are released, iZotope will offer them free of charge to customers purchasing RX or RX Advanced.
