At the 5th annual Musikmesse International Press Award (MIPA) ceremony, held recently in Frankfurt, Germany, the musical instrument/pro audio community awarded Tsutomu Katoh (pictured), founder and chairman of Korg, with the MIPA Lifetime Achievement Award for his strategic vision and entrepreneurial spirit since the early 1960s. The award presentation included a video tribute from longtime Korg user Keith Emerson, who offered his personal congratulations.

Katoh said, “It is a great honor to receive such a memorable award. Though music and instruments have changed a lot over our 40 year history, we would like to always keep in mind the importance of making products that are truly useful for musicians around the world.”

Korg was also honored for its achievements in product development. This year’s award for Best Keyboard Workstation went to the Triton Sseries and the Electribe Series was dubbed Best Groove Box”
