The Learning Annex Presents “Producing Hit Records”

Author David John Farinella, a regular contributor to Mix magazine, will appear at The Learning Annex’s Los Angeles location on Tuesday, September 26 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to discuss his new book, Producing Hit Records: Secrets from the Studio, published by Schirmer Trade Books. The Los Angeles session will also feature renowned music producers Joe Henry (Aimee Mann, Ani DiFranco, T Bone Burnett), Ross Hogarth (John Mellencamp, Melissa Etheridge, Nickelback, R.E.M.) and Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Faith No More, Sheryl Crow).

On Thursday, October 26, Farinella will appear at the Learning Annex’s San Francisco from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Special guests for this session have not yet been announced.

Farinella’s book discusses how record producers shape the hits and the careers of major artists. Farinella interviewed producers including Rick Rubin, Tony Brown, Walter Afanasieff, Dave Fridmann, Howard Benson, as well as artists such as Joe Henry, Ben Harper, Rufus Wainwright, David Lowery and Linda Perry. The book presents practical tips and covers a wide spectrum of musical genres, providing information for various aesthetic tastes and diverse production styles, while exploring the unique chemistry between artist and producer.
