Mates Rehearsal and Cartage in North Hollywood, Calif. recently acquired JBL Professional VRX915M loudspeakers. Entering its 25th year, Mates, which is co-owned by Bob Brunner (pictured) and Jim Giglio, features two medium-sized rooms and two large soundstages. The company reports that it has used the monitors with great success in each of its studios, thanks to the monitors’ portability and versatility.
“We have a variety of clients, from arena acts down to bands playing the clubs on Sunset Strip,” Brunner says. “Regardless of the artist, Jim and I remain very involved with the day-to-day operations, making sure that all of our clients are given the first-class treatment that we pride ourselves on providing.
“We can have the VRX915M’s up and running very quickly,” Brunner continues. “You plug them in and the sound is right there. There’s very little change of the EQ, which is great for us and our clients. You want to spend as little time as possible getting the sound right, and more time ensuring the artists are comfortable and making the most of their time. Just as importantly, the sound is terrific. A lot of our acts play at very high volumes, and getting over those levels is often our biggest challenge. With the VRX915M monitors, this has been a simple task.”
