McNally Smith Announces Mike Watt Bass Scholarship

McNally Smith College of Music, a school of American popular music, announced the establishment of the Mike Watt Bass Guitar Scholarship.

McNally Smith College of Music, a school of American popular music, announced the establishment of the Mike Watt Bass Guitar Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded each semester to an incoming bass major starting in Fall 2006.

The scholarship is named for legendary bass guitarist Mike Watt, who gained international cult fame for his innovative playing with the groundbreaking Southern California band, The Minutemen. Watt then went on to form the band fIREHOSE, which signed with Sony/Columbia records and was popular on American college campuses in the 90’s. Most recently Watt has been touring internationally with the reformed Iggy and The Stooges.

Watt held a special bass guitar seminar at McNally Smith on December 14, 2005. Esteemed Twin Cities bass players Eric Fratske (Happy Apple, Zebulon Pike), Drew Miller (Boiled in Lead), Sean McPherson (Heiruspecs) and McNally Smith’s Charles Fletcher joined him on stage.
