METAlliance Hosts Educational Workshop at Capitol Studios

The METAlliance recently held an educational event for the Hollywood community at Capitol Studios. The daylong program explored today’s state-of-the-art quality of recording with educators and students in audio engineering. Founding METAlliance directors Chuck Ainlay, Ed Cherney, George Massenburg, Phil Ramone and Al Schmitt were among the speakers who presented examples of high-resolution recordings, music videos and anecdotes about life in the studio over the years.

The Hollywood workshop served as a precursor to the second annual METAlliance Educator Summit, which will convene October 8, on the eve of the AES Convention in New York City, at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development. Representatives from New York University, Berklee College of Music, University of Massachusetts Lowell, University of Michigan, Webster University, Belmont University, McGill University, and the University of Southern California are expected to attend. Additional international educators from Mexico, South America, Japan and Europe are also expected to participate.

Capitol Studios & Mastering is the historic recording center housed at the famous Capitol Records building in Los Angeles. Capitol is the home of great recordings from iconic artists such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, The Beach Boys, and Green Day. In addition, the studios are host to some of the most talented up-and-coming musical talent of today. From live sessions to Webcasts, string dates to mixing, film shoots to videos, mastering to vinyl, the expert staff brings the quality that Capitol is known for to every aspect of every project.

The METAlliance was established in 2005 by renowned music producers and recording engineers Chuck Ainlay, Ed Cherney, Frank Filipetti, George Massenburg, Phil Ramone, Elliot Scheiner, and Al Schmitt as a collaborative community that allows producers, engineers and audio technology manufacturers to work together to ensure the highest standards of audio production.

Alongside platforms for research and development, standardization and education, METAlliance also works closely with manufacturers to evaluate and certify products that offer the highest levels of quality in the recording chain. To date, only a handful of products have achieved this accolade.
