MPSE Elects New Officers

The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) has announced the election of its new officers and board of directors, to take office effective August 1, 2005.

The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) has announced the election of its new officers and board of directors, to take office effective August 1, 2005.

Bobbi Banks has been elected President of the organization, moving up from Vice-President. She is the first African-American president of the organization. As an ADR editor, her credits include 2 Fast 2 Furious and Son of the Mask.

“Having served on the Board of Directors for the past 12 years, I am excited to see the direction that the organization is going, and am honored to serve as President. We have some very dedicated and exceptionally innovative people serving on the board of directors. In the near future look forward to some new chapters opening up for the Motion Picture Sound Editors,” said Bobbi Banks.

Frank Morrone (Cider House Rules, Sleepy Hollow) has been elected vice president, and Glenn T. Morgan (Open Water, The Day After Tomorrow) has been elected Sergeant-at-Arms. Re-elected were Devon Curry (Lords of Dogtown, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow) as Treasurer and Marc Lanza (JFK, Glory) as Secretary.

Newly elected to two-year terms on the Board of Directors are sound editors Jason B. Arnold (Skyline Sound) and Jay Levine (X-Files, MacGyver).

Re-elected as sound editors were Scott G.G. Haller (Spider-Man 2, Passion of the Christ), Suhail Kafity (Pearl Harbor, Spy Game), Maciek Malish (Starship Troopers, Millennium), Christpher B. Reeves (Gettysburg, Alias), and Solange “of Hollywood” Schwalbe (Pirates of the Caribbean, Black Hawk Down). Marc S. Perlman (Buzz Lightyear, The Outer Limits) and Michael T. Ryan (Fantastic Four, Hitch) were re-elected as music editors.

They join existing board members Harry Cheney, Joanie Diener, Gary Friedman, Jeremy J. Gordon, Robert Hargreaves, Kevin Howard, Albert Lord III, Steven Saltzman, Ahmad Shirazi, Anne-Marie Slack, Roland Thai, Donna Walker, and Steven D. Williams.

“After my recent illness, I am extremely happy to see the organization in such capable hands,” added outgoing MPSE president David J. Bondelevitch.

The MPSE recently celebrated its 52nd year as an organization. It is dedicated to improving recognition of its members by educating the entertainment community as to the artistic merit of sound editing. They host the annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards each year. The 53rd show will be held March 4, 2006 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.
