NAB News: Studio Network Solutions Debuts globalSAN X-24™

Studio Network Solutions (SNS) recently unveiled the globalSAN X-24™, the company’s latest addition to the globalSAN X series of products, at the NAB trade show in Las Vegas, NV (April 16-21).

Studio Network Solutions (SNS) recently unveiled the globalSAN X-24™, the company’s latest addition to the globalSAN X series of products, at the NAB trade show in Las Vegas, NV (April 16-21).

Following the introduction of the globalSAN X-8™ and X-16™, the fully configured iSCSI SAN solutions to support Macintosh and Windows, the X-24 will provide large facilities with a better solution to manage their storage networking. The globalSAN X-24 package will include six terabytes of SATA storage and six iSANmp™ user licenses that can be upgraded to support additional users/storage.

“The responses we have received from the X-8 and X-16s have been remarkable,” stated Gary Holladay, SNS president. “This line of affordable, multiplatform system products that can handle Final Cut Pro, Avid and Pro Tools editing over an Ethernet connection is being embraced by studios and post-production facilities worldwide.”

Built on the company’s iSANmp™ dynamic volume sharing software, the iSCSI-based globalSAN product is the perfect solution for facilities that require a significant upgrade in networking performance, but do not have the need for a full-blown Fibre Channel SAN or point to point Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity.

globalSAN X-24 employs iSCSI to enable an IP-based Storage Area Network. Easy-to-use and powerful, the iSANmp enables a high-speed, competitively priced storage solution capable of spanning nearly any IP network.

A key to globalSAN products is its ability to offer block-level access to data over widely deployed IP-based networks, allowing secure and easy access over local, metropolitan or WAN. For example, by installing a globalSAN system, a company in New York will not only be able to securely share data among its local users, but it can also share production information with a sister company in Los Angeles, or backup to a remote storage location.

“Utilizing globalSAN for Production Content Delivery is everyday practice for some of our clients. Being able to securely mount a hard drive from anywhere in the world with point-to-point access is new to the audio and video industry. Integration with Content Management Systems and SNS’ upcoming production management software is a critical advance in Metadata input and the ability of an enterprise to ensure proper information input, starting with the ingest of content. Our customers’ need for advanced software and secure high speed LAN and WAN iSCSI solutions drives the need for the X-24’s bulletproof performance and reliability,” stated Holladay.
