PreSonus Ships Compact Eris E4.5 Studio Monitors

PreSonus Eris E4.5

PreSonus is shipping the ultra-compact Eris E4.5 studio reference monitor ($199.95/pair; anticipated MAP/street price), the third model in the company’s Eris Series of two-way monitor speakers. PreSonus states that this new monitor speaker is designed for bedroom studios and school music programs, and as a high-quality replacement for computer speakers.

The Eris E4.5 features a 4.5-inch Kevlar low-frequency transducer, a 1-inch (25mm) silk-dome, high-frequency tweeter, and a rear bass-reflect port. Each speaker is powered by a 25-watt Class-A/B amplifier. Peak SPL is rated at 100 dB. The E4.5 measures 6.42×9.45×7.09 inches and its stated frequency response is 70 to 20k Hz.

The Eris E4.5 has balanced ¼-inch TRS and unbalanced RCA inputs, as well as unbalanced 1/8-inch inputs for a smartphone or MP3 player, offering flexibility for replacing computer speakers or older studio monitors.

A four-position Acoustic Space switch controls a second-order shelving filter, centered at 1 kHz, that provides three attenuation points (no attenuation, -2 dB, and -4 dB), allowing control over the the bass response relative to the wall proximity of the speakers. A highpass switch sets the low-frequency cutoff (second-order slope, -12 dB/octave) to be flat, 80 Hz, or 100 Hz. It also has continuously adjustable (±6 dB) High Frequency and Midrange controls.

PreSonus states that this combination of controls lets users create a linear response for accurate monitoring, as well as simulate different listening environments, negating the need to listen to mixes in a car or on consumer computer speakers or home stereo.
