Five new 3-way screen channel loudspeakers have joined QSC’s four existing DCS Series offerings. High-powered and easy to install, the modular product group ranges in size from the compact SC-413 to the flagship SC-443, which uses a 4×15 bottom-end and the manufacturer’s proprietary MH-1075 mid-high section.
“The development of these new three-channel DCS models was fueled by our continuing efforts to offer audio solutions for everything from high-end screening rooms to auditoriums of all sizes,” QSC’s cinema market manager, François Godfrey, said. “QSC occupies a unique position within the marketplace in that we’re of a size that allows us to bring precise focus to cinema, yet still more than capable of delivering the quantities needed for multiplex construction.”
QSC has given the new DCS 3-way screen channel loudspeakers uniform performance characteristics requiring minimal EQ to achieve cinema-specific frequency response goals. Easily integrated into new builds or upgrades to existing systems, thanks to clearly marked terminals and mounting hardware developed to ensure quick installations in mind.
Mid-high sections found in all five systems feature a horn-loaded midrange transducer topped by a titanium diaphragm compression driver coupled with an adjustable pan-and-tilt bracket. With nominal coverage rated at 90° horizontal x +20° to -30° in the vertical plane, each is outfitted with its own driver protection network and a passive crossover for bi-amp use, and additionally facilitates high frequency crossover points of up to 1800 Hz to insure that most dialog is reproduced by a single element for added intelligibility.
The low frequency enclosures provided with each new 3-way DCS screen channel system were designed expressly to meet the needs of the extended LF response required in modern cinema applications. Central to the success of each offering’s ground-shaking low-end capabilities is QSC’s close-coupled woofer (CCW) technology, which keeps coverage angles considerably wider over a greater frequency range than traditional devices employing widely spaced woofers.
