Semisonic’s Dan Wilson Uses Roll Music Systems’ Super Stereo Compressor

Semisonic songwriter, guitarist and producer Dan Wilson recently added Roll Music Systems’ RMS755 Super Stereo compressor to his equipment arsenal and has been using it extensively on recent projects with Mike Doughty (Soul Coughing) and Storyhill.

“I’ve used it on every session I’ve done,” Wilson notes. “It’s all over the new Mike Doughty album, which I’ve been tracking with him and his band this summer. I’m mixing the whole Storyhill album though it. That’s a very intimate and acoustic-sounding album, and I’m really happy about how clean and natural the Super Stereo sounds on the material, even when it’s working hard.

“On the stereo mix, I find myself engaging the highpass filter on the sidechain a lot more than I would have guessed,” Wilson adds. “And I loved tracking piano with it, too.”

Wilson co-wrote one-third of the songs on the new Dixie Chicks album, and is also working on a solo project produced by Rick Rubin.

Roll Music Systems will exhibit its products as part of the Tuff Co-op at the 2006 AES show in San Francisco, Calif. (booth #1136) on October 6, 7 and 8.
