Sennheiser Unveils e 912 S Boundary Microphone

Sennheiser launched the Evolution 912 S ($TBA), a pre-polarized condenser microphone with half-cardioid pickup pattern that has been acoustically optimized for speech applications. The e 912 S boundary microphone features an unobtrusive design that permits discrete placement on flat surfaces such as conference tables, lecterns and altars.

The new e 912 S offers a frequency response curve that is tailored for picking up speech over relatively short distances, but may be switched to perform similarly to the Sennheiser e 912, which is designed for instrument pick-up. An internal DIP switch bank allows the e 912 S microphone’s frequency response curve to match the response of the e 912. It may alternatively be switched to select low cut, low and high boost (factory preset), or low boost.

The e 912 S may be switched on or off using the integrated programmable membrane switch. A second internal DIP switch bank provides additional features to be selected, including on/off (factory preset), push-to-talk button (PTT), cough button (PTM) or permanently switched on (ON).

The form factor of the e 912 S offers a rugged sound inlet basket, a rubber damping plate on the base and an unobtrusive, flat design for a variety of speech applications. Slots are provided for mounting the e 912 S on a flat surface. The microphone features integrated electronics, rather than an in-line preamp, and is supplied as standard with a gold-plated XLR connector.

The Sennheiser e 912 S boundary microphone has a stated frequency response of 20 to 20k Hz and offers a maximum sound pressure level of 134 dB (at 1 kHz). The e 912 S measures 4.9×4.1×1.04 inches and weighs 19.4 ounces. It is available in black, Nextel gray or crème white finishes, and ships with a pouch, user manual and warranty certificate.
