Sibelius Software Ltd., (London, England) a music software company, announced the recent acquisition of SequenceXtra, a Sweden-based software and multimedia developer, SourceForce.

SequenceXtra is a sequencer whose development began during the IMUS project, a music education software venture funded by the Swedish government. The code of SequenceXtra allows a MIDI sequencer to be combined with a customizable front end, allowing it to be used in a variety of applications.

“The acquisition of SequenceXtra will enhance future product development and will support Sibelius’ worldwide reputation for innovation,” said Jeremy Silver, CEO, Sibelius Software Ltd. “With more than 150 SequenceXtra licensees worldwide, the potential is unlimited.”

The technology of SequenceXtra is used in Sibelius’ Compass software, one of six components in the Sibelius Education Suite. The Education Suite was developed to aid students in the art of composition, Compass covers topics such as melody, harmony, texture and form. Sibelius uses SequenceXtra in Compass Tracker to record and develop musical ideas. Functioning as a sequencer, Tracker includes more than 1,200 motifs, as well as chord sequences, rhythms, scales and tools to create canons, inversions and ostinati.
