Studio Voss in Norway has installed an 80-channel SL 9000 J Series SuperAnalogue console. Studio owners Lars K. Hustoft and Yngve Hoyland had worked in many SSL 9000 Series–equipped studios before and found that they wanted such a console for their own studio. Studio Voss’s equipment includes Neve 1073 mic preamps, a Universal Audio LA-2A dynamics processor and 1176LN Limiting Amplifier, a Lexicon 480L digital effects system, and AMS-Neve and Tube Tech products, among others. Most sessions are recorded with a Pro Tools rig and two Sony 3324 digital multitrack machines.
Hustoft and Hoyland use Studio Voss to record sessions for their independent record label, Crystal Air Records. “We are based outside the big cities and can enjoy the benefits of low rent, stunning nature and clean air,” Hustoft says. “Our low-cost operation has given our external clients the possibility of renting one of Scandinavia’s best mix rooms at 500 pounds per day.”
