Emre Ramazanoglu Switches His Studio Monitoring To PMC

Producer Emre Ramazanoglu has invested in a pair of PMC twotwo8 monitors for his studio in London and is already finding that their clarity and detail is helping to speed up his workflow, particularly on mix projects.

With a client list that reads like a Who’s Who of contemporary music, multi-talented Emre – Em to his friends – is in huge demand as a producer, engineer and mixer and also as a drummer, programmer and songwriter. During his 20-year career, Em has worked with an incredibly diverse range of artists including Richard Ashcroft, John Newman, Jimothy Lacoste, Etienne Daho, Kylie Minogue, Paloma Faith, Sia, Carly Rae Jepson, David Holmes, Wildflower and Brother Leo. Indeed, two of his recent album projects – for Noel Gallagher and Lily Allen – have been shortlisted for the 2018 Mercury Prize. He has also scored music for films, released four albums with his spiritual jazz band ‘Ill Considered’ and produced soundtracks and commercial scores for Haute Couture shows and high-end brands such as McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Ghost, Givenchy, Tommy Hilfiger, Armani and Gucci.

Em decided to upgrade his monitoring to PMC twotwo8 speakers after hearing a pair in Alan Moulder’s studio and being entranced by them.

“They are incredibly detailed and have great volume and a nice, full range,” he says. “As well as being musical and exciting, they remain proper reference monitors that suit everything I throw at them.”

Em is based at Hoxa HQ, a boutique facility in London’s West Hampstead that was established by writer/producer Jimmy Hogarth and features a wide selection of vintage and modern gear. As well as a large control room, live room, two booths and two isolation areas, Hoxa HQ also has four writing rooms and a comfortable kitchen and lounge.

“I’ve been here for three years now and I use my room for most of my projects, including mixing,” Em explains. “The only time I go elsewhere is if I’m working on a major album that requires a residential studio or involves recording a band all at once. Otherwise I can do everything I need in my own room or in Hoxa HQ’s main room.”

Alongside his new PMC monitors, Em’s studio is crammed with equipment including a 32 I/O Pro Tools HDX rig, a selection of UAD Apollo interfaces, two UAD Satellites, various preamps and processors from manufacturers such as Neve/Focusrite, API, Buzz, DAV, Culture Vulture and Dynamite and a selection of musical instruments including a full drum kit, bass and baritone guitars.

“Adding PMC twotwo8 monitors to my set up is allowing me to mix faster and better than ever before,” he says. “I feel like I’m really inside the mix when sitting between them. They are exactly as I remember them from Alan Moulder’s studio and I couldn’t be happier.”
