Academy of Contemporary Music Adds KRK Rokit Series Monitors To Its Curriculum

Students Learning Tools of the Trade on KRK Gear

GUILDFORD, UK, OCTOBER 3, 2011– KRK® Systems, a member of the Stanton Group of companies and a leading provider of accurate and reliable monitors and control room solutions, is proud to announce that the Academy of Contemporary Music has chosen KRK Rokit Series Studio Monitor Speakers for six of its sound studios at its three-building complex located in Guildford, UK.

“The Academy here in Guildford has 1,200 full-time and 300 part-time students, says Antony Greaves, head of audio production for the Academy of Contemporary Music. “We chose KRK because it is such a good brand, and provides an excellent teaching platform for our students to learn on equipment that they will without a doubt be working with in their careers.

The school, founded over 15-years ago and accredited by Guildford College, Middlesex University, Surrey University and Chichester University, offers programs in everything from music production and performance

to music business and sound design for new media. With satellite academies in the United States, South Africa and Italy, the Academy differs from more traditional music academies through its focus on rock and pop music, and its vocational approach to teaching. It offers Diploma, Higher Diploma, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Masters Degree programs and is constantly looking to upgrade its facilities to stay current. The KRK Rokit Series helps the Academy offer professional, yet cost effective equipment for its students.

“We have a lot of students looking to work on the latest equipment from well known manufacturers, states Greaves. “Having the absolute latest technology and a better version of what our competitors offer is a huge advantage to us. Providing top of the line audio and recording equipment from manufacturers such as KRK helps us attract and keep students, he continues.

KRK is installed in six of the Guilford location’s state-of-the-art studios, including the Rokit 5, Rokit 6 and Rokit 8, as well as one KRK10s powered subwoofer. Rokit monitors provide a value-priced monitor that delivers meaningful mixes that translate to all listening environments. A key component to the look of Rokit monitors is the molded front baffle, designed to virtually eliminate diffraction distortion caused by standard flat baffles. KRK’s KRK10s powered subwoofer is the perfect complement to Rokit monitors. The KRK10s is designed to extend the low-frequency performance of an existing monitor system so that subsonic frequencies in the mix can be properly engineered. A high-power amplifier and active crossovers provide smooth and accurate reproduction.

In addition to the KRK equipment, the Academy of Contemporary Music recently purchased two Focusrite channel strips, the Liquid Channel and an ISA430 MkII. Focusrite has exclusively distributed all KRK products in the UK for over 5 years, alongside products from Focusrite, Novation and other key distributed brands.

“The Academy of Contemporary Music is training tomorrow’s musicians, songwriters, producers and remixers, says Dan Bruck, director of marketing for the Stanton Group. “We are truly proud to be affiliated with such a prestigious learning institution, as music education is a huge part of what KRK is about. We’re happy to help the Academy further its goals of providing tomorrow’s music professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive.

“Students love working with the Rokit monitors, Greaves adds. “It doesn’t hurt that they sound more expensive than they actually are. Many of our students actually end up purchasing them for their personal recording set-ups.
