Amadeus Sound Reinforcement Featured at Paris “Fete de la Musique”

Paris, France – July 10, 2013 – Every year in The City of Light on the Summer Solstice, hundreds of thousands of revelers enjoy music at stages and buildings set around picturesque Paris locations at the free “Fete de la Musique” event. Amadeus, based in France, one of the premiere manufacturers of high-end sound reinforcement systems and custom studio speakers, outfitted the EDM stage with live sound at the event for DJ sets by Michael Canitrot, Nico de Andrea, Gregori Klosman and Tristan Garner. Amadeus provided integrated sound reinforcement from stage to audience combining their Amadeus DIVA XL array systems, Amadeus PMX 15 coaxial speaker systems, used as stage monitors and in front-fills, and an exciting new prototype product, the Amadeus MAESTRO subwoofer. The Amadeus MAESTRO subwoofer takes a revolutionary step forward in subwoofer technology and design with a unique combination of both low power handling capacity and ultra high-efficiency with dual high-linear excursion 15-inch horn-loaded speakers mounted in a push-pull mode. At the Fete de la Musique EDM stage, only 8 subwoofers were paired with 2 Lab Gruppen C88:4 amplifiers offering a maximum SPL 155 dB at 25 Hz. Over ten thousand people attended the EDM event at the stunning Place du Palais Royal in downtown Paris.

For dance music, DJs love bass. Commenting on the Amadeus live sound setup DJ Michaël Canitrot said, “I was very impressed by the power, the pureness and the spectral quality of the Amadeus live sound system throughout the whole listening area. For my music, a high-fidelity reinforcement of bass matching the sound I prefer, and that was recorded in the studio, is important, especially when I play a huge live show! In this sense, I was totally satisfied by the new Amadeus prototype subwoofer, it provided deep, clear and powerful natural-sounding bass.” An example of the advantage of Amadeus MAESTRO to other subwoofer systems: it would take 24 standard double 18-inch speaker subwoofer systems, using 24 power channels, to equal only 8 MAESTRO subwoofer setups using just two power amplifiers, (such as the Lab Gruppen C88:4). The Amadeus MAESTRO subwoofer system is still in testing, and continues to be refined, the product is set to be released in Asia in 2014, with the price TBA.

Gaetan BYK, Marketing Manager at Amadeus, stated, “The Fete de la Musique was an another opportunity to evaluate the MAESTRO prototype that we have worked on for over six years through similar large scale events. The MAESTRO was used in classical venues with orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, pop music tours, including Mika, rock concerts including Joe Cocker, EDM festivals including Michael Canitrot, Bob Sinclar, Laurent Wolf, and Jazz concerts, including Sonny Rollins, Carlos Santana, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller and many others. We have already optimized the prototype subwoofer a great deal, thanks to the feedback from technicians, sound engineers, and acousticians that have been using the MAESTRO.”

Gaetan BYK continues, “The MAESTRO is the brainchild of Amadeus working with entertainment technology providers to minimize overall costs while maximizing the sonic quality and the tonal balance homogeneity for long throw and sound pressure level under 50 Hz. The ‘User Requirements Specification’ that we ended up with from our experiences is quite complex, even utopian. After several years of R&D, we provided this prototype to several partners who could test the subwoofer in very different types of concerts and venues, with 5,000 to 50,000 people in the audience. The MAESTRO will soon be rolling off the assembly line at the Amadeus plant in France, to be released first to the Asian live sound market in 2014.”

At the Fete de la Musique, the prototype MAESTRO subwoofers were placed on the ground, complementing the Amadeus DIVA XL array speaker systems hung above on stage rigging. Released in 2000, the Amadeus DIVA XL line array element is the company’s premiere speaker component for high-definition sound reproduction and reinforcement. DIVA speakers are optimized to form a coherent line source system cluster. The evenness of the spread of sound combined with the sonic coverage is outstanding, with the focus to reproduce exact sonic characteristics and transients, both central parameters for any accurate musical signal. The DIVA speaker’s linearity in power and low distortion are also critical factors for reproducing accurate musical timbres, in fact, the company feels that “getting the sound right at the event” is much more crucial for the audience than specifications on paper noting “flat frequency” or Sound Pressure Level. The DIVA system is the perfect tool for the creative sound engineer, who will be able to create a mix that doesn’t sound “over-processed” and can guarantee that the audience will hear the mix across the entire covered listening zone.

The DIVA XL speakers are optimized for a 10-degree maximum vertical dispersion and 100-degrees on the horizontal axis at 60 Hz to 20,000 Hz. This 2-way active speaker, with passive filtering at 250 Hz for the low-mid loudspeaker is used with the DIVA XL 15, to extend the frequency response down to 35 Hz (up to 110 Hz). The choice of speaker and electrical components and the way they are integrated – plus the unique cabinet design with waveguides and phase pieces – give the DIVA XL line array system a true audiophile dimension, matching the philosophy of the studio monitors that have been developed by Amadeus over the past 20 years for world-renowned artists and studios.

Also at the EDM stage were several PMX 15 coaxial speaker systems to fill in the sound in particular close to stage listening areas. The PMX 15 system offers an excellent sound image, very exact timbral reproduction and an extended frequency response, 50 Hz to 20.000 Hz. The PMX 15 system is designed for use in sound reinforcement applications in concert halls, auditoriums, theaters, clubs, or even touring applications as stage monitors. The PMX 15 system can also be a perfect solution for fixed or long-term installations.

About the Fete de la Musique
Launched in Paris in 1982 by the French Ministry for culture, the Fête de la Musique is now held in more than hundred countries in Europe and around the world. It takes place every 21st June, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. Performers of all styles of music are asked to perform for free, and all the concerts are free for the public and are held in open-air areas such as streets, parks or in public buildings like museums, train stations, or castles. The Fête de la Musique is also a way to encourage the major music institutions such as orchestras, operas, and choirs to perform outside their usual locations.
