ANALOG DESIGN GROUP‘S PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT BENEFITS FROM AURALEX ACOUSTICS‘ SOUND ADVICE

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Auralex Acoustics, Inc., the industry leader in innovative sound control solutions, recently provided acoustical treatments for Analog Design Group‘s sound stage and product development facility. Analog Design Group located in Bergen County, New Jersey, designs high-end vacuum tube audio products for both the home and pro audio markets.

“As a design engineer, musician and audiophile, it is critical that I listen to my work in an acoustically balanced environment,” said Vincent Miraglia, owner and product development innovator at Analog Design Group, Inc. ”This gives me a solid reference point in which to improve the sound of my products.”

The first part of the design process was to apply Auralex‘s DST-114 Designer Series treatment between a pair of modified B&W Signature 805 monitors in the center of the facility‘s front wall. This delivered a truer focused image and extended the soundstage depth. Next, Miraglia placed more of Auralex‘s DST-114 behind each monitor in a different configuration – helping to not only increase the width and depth of the soundstage, but lower the noise floor of the room. Already in place were bookcases on each of the side walls, which acted as diffusion for the primary reflections points of the monitors.

The next issue to address was the room‘s low frequency nodes. Here, Miraglia chose Auralex‘s LERND (Low-End Node Reduction Device) bass traps for their price and performance (1.24 absorption coefficient @ 125Hz). First, he installed a 12” CornerFill Cube in each of the rear wall trihedral corners, and then placed LERND bass traps on all (3) sides of both CornerFill Cubes.

“Aside from utilizing them in the past with great success, I had the opportunity to hear their new pArtScience line while attending the grand reopening of BiCoastal Music studios in Ossining, NY,” continued Miraglia. “I spent a good deal of the night in the control room enjoying an acoustically and ergonomically correct space.”

After his experience listening in the BiCoastal control room and some additional research, Miraglia then installed a set of pArtScience SpaceCouplers, setup horizontally above the ‘mix‘ position. In this position, the SpaceCouplers loosely couple both the top and bottom parts of the room. It redirects sound, diffusing it into the top portion of the room and then back down again, thus generating a reverb tail. The resulting soundstage opened-up, making the space sound larger then it is. It also helped to increase the focus. Finally, Miraglia installed an Auralex SubDude to float the subwoofer and acoustically isolate it from the floor. This decoupling tightened the rooms bass frequencies and increased overall low-end clarity.

“The results of installing these bass traps were impressive,” noted Miraglia. “During installation what I heard was the smoothing out, tightening and resulting clarity of bass frequencies. Overall, Auralex Acoustics provided me with an excellent balance of price, performance and aesthetics. They are the perfect companion to ADG products – creating the optimal sounding environment in which to design and experience Analog Blue, the signature ADG amplifier. Simply put, Auralex products translate!”
