Artists Gather In Brighton To Support The Launch of Pro7ect 2018 Songwriting Retreat

Pro7ect, GOAT Music and the Featured Artist Coalition are planning a day of live music during The Great Escape to showcase UK songwriting talent.

Billy Crabtree, The Beach and Irini Mandó are just some of the acts performing live at Brighton’s Hotel Pelirocco to celebrate the launch of Pro7ect’s 2018 Songwriting retreat.

This exciting day of live music will take place on May 19th during The Great Escape to showcase talented, emerging UK artists from the pools of Pro7ect, GOAT Music and the Featured Artists Coalition.

“We’ve got a fantastic line-up for this industry showcase event and are thrilled to be launching Pro7ect 2018 @TGE.” says singer, songwriter, producer Lisa Fitzgibbon, who co-founded Pro7ect with Ivor Novello nominated producer/composer Ian Wallman. “We are really excited to return to Hotel Pelirocco with some of the UK’s most talented emerging artists. GOAT Music & the FAC have been key to building such a strong showcase. ”

Now in its fifth year, Pro7ect’s 2018 Songwriting Retreat will run from February 26th to March 2nd, 2018. Once again, songwriters and artists will have the opportunity to work with A-list producers to write, record and produce great music. These face to face collaborations with producers such as Youth (Sir Paul McCartney/The Verve/Echo & The Bunnymen/The Orb), Roni Size (Reprazent, Method Man, Zac de la Rocha), John Fortis (Razorlight, Ellie Goulding, Yellowdays), Stew Jackson (Massive Attack/Phantom Limb) and Andrew Levy (Brand New Heavies) has already resulted in success, with a number of songs from previous events attracting attention from the international music industry.

“Pro7ect is possibly the best songwriting/producer workshop masterclass I’ve been involved with,” says Youth who took part in this year’s retreat. “It’s a unique and brilliant idea to combine different skills (songwriting and production) and create music in such an intensive, short amount of time. Taking part was great fun and a super creative experience.”

Roni Size adds: “Pro7ect was beyond anything I had imagined. It was so inspiring – not just in musical terms but also in how we interacted with each other. It was a really interesting and worthwhile experience.”

Pro7ect’s aim is to facilitate creative retreats where songwriters, producers and musicians join forces to inspire musical collaboration. This year’s event, which took place at Hotel Pelirocco in March, resulted in 20 amazing songs written and recorded in just four days. Six of these songs were optioned by artists and publishers less than a week after the event concluded.

Lisa Fitzgibbon adds: “The benefits of collaboration are obvious from the results we achieve every time we run a Pro7ect retreat. This level of creativity would be hard to sustain on your own, but when you get a group of like-minded people together, the output of material is staggering and the quality of the songs is simply amazing.”

For the duration of Pro7ect, participants work in producer-led teams to write a track a day. These are recorded in pop-up studios equipped with the latest technology from manufacturers such as PMC, Focusrite/Novation, Roland and Audio Technica. The teams are changed each day and the songs are either written for one of the artists in the room or to spec using tip sheets supplied by Pro7ect. Every evening there is a feedback session where teams play the result of their day’s work to the entire group.

Songwriters and artists who have taken part in previous Pro7ect@The Hotel Pelirocco retreats have nothing but praise for the experience.

“What a week! It was an absolute pleasure and I got some great music from it, with amazing people,” says Billy Crabtree, while fellow 2017 participant Hattie Briggs adds: “It was an amazing week of creativity and I loved the whole thing. I learned a lot with a a fantastic group of people and I’m really chuffed with the songs we made. I reckon I’ll be using three out of four tracks this year on a CD and possibly live as well.”

Details of the venue and the producers taking part in Pro7ect 2018 will be announced over coming months. The cost of participating is between £1089 and £1299, which includes food and accommodation for four nights. Places are limited and anyone wishing to take part should visit www.pro7ect.com to apply.
