Ashly Amps and Processing Back Up Digital Signage at Milano’s Cadorna Station

MILAN, ITALY: Milano Cadorna Station is one of the central hubs of public transportation in Milan, Italy, with connections to regional and commuter heavy rail train service, two light rail lines, numerous bus and tram lines, and taxi service. Given the huge volume of travelers who use Milano Cadorna Station every day, its owners wanted to experiment with audio accompaniment for the digital signage that formerly supported only visual advertising. Daniele Santini of Etabeta Electronics designed a cost-effective, high-impact system with local A/V specialist Vidimax installing the system.

“Every loudspeaker is tied to a particular television monitor that broadcasts advertising messages,” said Santini. “It’s a pilot project to gauge advertiser and commuter interest.” Input to the system consists of a custom media player streamed from the company that is responsible for the station’s advertising. There are several ‘channels’ associated with different ads such that different ads can play on different screens simultaneously. An Ashly Pema 4250.10 provides all of the necessary routing logic and loudspeaker conditioning for the system. In addition, strategically placed microphones measure the ambient noise level at the station so that the Ashly processing can automatically adjust the volume of the advertisements to maintain intelligibility without being bombastic. The Pema 4250.10 also provides four 250-watt amplifier channels, which, together with a two-channel Ashly ne1600.10 800W amplifier, covers all six output zones. Twelve One Systems 106IM/100 loudspeakers provide the final output.

“Ashly offers perfect solutions for these kinds of installations,” said Santini. “Space was tight, and we were able to do everything we needed to do with just a handful of rack spaces, two for the Pema 4250.10 and two for the ne1600.10. Ashly gear always operates as promised, and it always operates reliably. With Ashly, I have confidence that the system will perform consistently for the station.”
