Aviom Mixes it up For Northern Ireland’s Theatre At The Mill

BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND — When Theatre at the Mill, a newly built, 400-seat performance arts venue located in the Belfast metropolitan area, needed a reliable way to monitor sound for its premiere production, a staging of the hit musical Sweeney Todd, it cast Aviom A-16II Personal Mixers (PLASA Stand 1-F2) in a major supporting role. The reliability and ease-of-use of the Aviom gear has proven to be the ideal solution. Supplied and installed by Production Services Ireland (PSI), the equipment helped see Theatre at the Mill through a flawless Sweeney Todd run, proving it was the ideal choice for the busy theatre’s varying needs.

As it is designed to serve a wide cross-section of the arts and surrounding community, Theatre of the Mill is equipped to host a large variety of events, ranging from theater to live bands and dance competitions to conferences and award ceremonies. The flexibility and ease-of-use for which Aviom is well known plays no small part in the venue’s ability to adapt to different uses. Producers, directors, musicians and others who use the facility know that they can count on the theatre’s Aviom A-16II Personal Mixers, which are versatile enough to support any production or event that makes its way to the stage.

Theatre at the Mill’s A-16II Personal Mixers give individual performers control over channel volume, grouping, pan, stereo spread, master volume and tone so they can create custom monitor mixes tailored to their specific needs. With the Aviom gear readily accessible in racks backstage, production teams can easily add the setup to their presentations and adjust the equipment to meet the show’s requirements – whether it be for a band on stage, a pit orchestra during a theatrical performance, or a corporate presentation.

“We are very happy with the Aviom Personal Mixers, says PSI Director Brian Reilly. “We researched and talked about the gear with other suppliers who gave us good reports. It is fulfilling our needs, and those of Theatre at the Mill, perfectly. Our specification of the Aviom A-16II Personal Mixers for the theatre marked our company’s first foray into audio monitoring, so the success of the Aviom gear at this venue makes us doubly pleased.

In addition to the superb audio fidelity of the Aviom gear, the system simplifies control and runs on a single Cat-5 cable, which makes it easier for Theatre at the Mill to move the equipment anywhere in the venue. Connected to an A-Net Y1 card plugged into a Yamaha LS9 console, the Aviom signal can be sent out to the A-16II Personal Mixers for an entire orchestra or that of a single sound engineer.

“The Aviom equipment allows artists to dial their own individual mix, which is ideal for achieving perfect monitors when sound check time is tight, adds Reilly. “Since the system runs on a single Cat-5 cable, production teams don’t have to worry about running several wires that would ultimately be in the way.
